Vasco Correia

Vasco Correia is a postdoctoral researcher at the IFL (New University of Lisbon), where he develops a project financed by the FCT on the topic “Emotions and rationality”, under the supervision of Professor João Sàágua (IFL) and Professor Jon Elster (Collège de France). He obtained his PhD in 2008 from the Université de Paris IV-Sorbonne, and is the author of the book La Duperie de Soi et le Problème de l’Irrationalité (Editions Universitaires Européennes, 2010), as well as of several articles on the topics of rationality, epistemology and philosophy of mind. He is also involved in two different projects at the IFL: the Arg-Lab project, where he focuses on the problem of the causes of fallacious reasoning, and the Cognitive Foundations of the Self, where he tackles the issue of personal identity.

The main focus of his research is the relationship between cognitive and emotional states. To elucidate this problem, he has taken a particular interest in the areas of social psychology, cognitive neuroscience and the philosophy of mind. He is also very interested in the field of argumentation theory, particularly when it comes to the question of fallacious and irrational reasoning.
